MaxiCompact and M8Compact fuses

MTA, a leader in electronic and electromechanical components for the global vehicle manufacturers, celebrates this year the 60th anniversary of its foundation.
Building on a know-how gained during so many years of developing and manufacturing fuses and fuse holder boxes, MTA continues to innovate, always designing new product lines to meet the changing needs of vehicle manufacturers and wire suppliers, who are asking for increasingly lighter and compact products.

Having in mind weight and space saving, without compromises in terms of efficiency and reliability, MTA is introducing 2 new compact fuses lines  Maxi Compact and M8 Compact, real innovations for the market.

The MaxiCompact range is already under production for a global car manufacturer and at the same time MTA is now working with ISO to introduce this new compact family into their standards.
The MaxiCompact range  is meant as a substitute for Maxi and J-case fuses in the current range from 20A to 60A. The MaxiCompact fuses are smaller than the current solutions and enable significant space-saving when compared to their Maxi (-63%) and J-case (-40%) counterparts.

Lower operating time tolerance – which means greater accuracy – and higher self-heating performance enable the use of wires with smaller cross-section areas and lower weight than common fuses.
At the same time, MTA also developed a fuse holder module that accommodates 8 MaxiCompact fuses and 10 Mini fuses to offer its customers a complete solution. The Research&Development department also developed a new busbar for this fuse holder, using new tuning fork contacts capable of providing high currents in compact space.

To demonstrate the effective performance of these new fuses for potential customers, MTA has developed an operating prototype electronic control panel that incorporates Maxi Compact and M8Compact fuses. This prototype gives evidence of the characteristics of the new Compact series fuses outlined above. As a matter of fact, occupied surface area is 43% smaller, volume is 53% less, and weight reduction achieved is 37% when compared to a box containing the same number of J-Case or Maxi fuses, while electric performance remains unchanged. An added benefit is the ability to use smaller-section wires, with great space-saving in the engine bay.
