FAST MEGAFUSE 150A: NEW CORRECTED GRAPH

Thanks to its 60 years of expertise in the development and production of fuses, MTA is now able to offer  products that represent the state of the art of technology and that can meet the changing needs of vehicle manufacturers and wire suppliers. One of the challenges that car manufacturers have to face are several safety requirements related to hybrid vehicles. That’s where our Fast Megafuse come into play.

In fact, in hybrid vehicles the cable that runs from the DC-DC converter to the 12-V free acid battery needs to be protected from possible polarity reversals, besides common overloads or short circuits. Polarity reversals are not uncommon when replacing the battery as part of routine maintenance, and can destroy a converter unless it has in-built protection. This is why a fuse is needed to blow quickly before the high currents generated by polarity reversal can damage the converter.

Current technology available on the market ensures cable protection, but its response time is too long to offer adequate converter protection. As a result, MTA Research&Development had to identify a high-rated fuse suitable for protecting a cable with a large cross-section area that carries high currents, yet capable of behaving like smaller (say 40-A) fuses when exposed to high overcurrents. This is how the 150-A FAST MEGA fuse was born. It provides the same performance as MEGA fuses under low overcurrents, but is much faster in the event of a short circuit, which makes it ideal for all applications where accidental events may generate high overcurrents.
